Pre-Season Ladies Social
Malvern has a very strong presence of female players – something to be celebrated! It has become tradition for the ladies to get together during the off-season for an evening of food, drinks and laughs. This year, our gracious host was Cat Petchsingh (plus her lovely husband) who arranged a fabulous summer evening to go with our potluck and BBQ.

First Night Back, AGM and Awards
The club’s first night back was a super fun event and included potentially the quickest AGM ever! Key takeaways included some proposed changes to rules, those pertinent to the club are below:
Rule 5f: Change decision threshold at General Meetings from two-thirds majority → simple majority.
Rule 9b (Proposal 3 – Malvern/Riverside):
- Mixed teams: change format from 5 mixed, 2 men’s, 2 women’s doubles → 9 mixed doubles.
- Men’s/Women’s teams unchanged.
Rule 9b (Proposal 4 – Brockworth/Longlevens):
- Alternative amendment if Proposal 3 rejected.
- Mixed teams: keep 5 mixed, 2 men’s, 2 women’s doubles, but each game = 2 rubbers, points awarded per rubber.
Rule 2 (Objects): Add statement on Equality, Diversity & Inclusion, adopting Badminton England policy (as of 1 Sept).
Implementation: All changes apply from 2025/26 season.
Tom will represent the club at the AGM on 11th September.
We also awarded our annual trophies to two valued members of the club. The winner of the Barbara Gibson Women’s Trophy was Olivia Morley. Olivia is a fairly recent member of the club and we are so glad she joined us. Her improvement has been huge and she is now a competitive player in the Ladies and Mixed team. She is also a wonderful person to be around, always has a smile on her face and has thrown herself into playing and social parts of the club.
The Most Valuable Member plaque was awarded to Mike Stimpson. Similar to Olivia, though Mike is a newish member to the club he epitomises our values of hard-work, fun and friendliness. It’s rare indeed if Mike misses a week and he puts 100% effort into every match. His improvement since joining has been a joy to see. He will talk to anyone, is quick to welcome new people and has fast become part of the furniture.
Well done to Olivia and Mike!
